On Friday the Houston Rockets fired their head coach Jeff Van Gundy following another year of a first round NBA playoff elimination. Gundy had one nonguarenteed year left on his contract meaning that the Rockets had the option to keep him for the 08 season. This year the Rockets went 52-30, but it was heavily rumored that Van Gundy would be fired after their loss to the Utah Jazz in round 1 of the NBA playoffs. Van Gundy said he was hopeful to retain his job.
“I was hopeful all the way up to last night they would change their mind.”

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Athletes, Editorial, Front Office, Kudos, NBA, News, NFL, Videocasts,
In this edition of the End Score Report, Dan Devone gives his take on the latest news from the world of sports:
- NFL Draft: Publications, networks, etc. spend the entire year crunching the numbers, and most of the time they aren’t right, even on the #1 pick.
- We discuss the draft. JaMarcus Russell should be the #1 draft pick, not Brady Quinn.
- SuperSonics leave Seattle, possibly heading to Las Vegas if NBA betting disappears.
- A-Rod out of his mind and going bananas with the New York Yankees - 14 home runs in a month.

Soriano Joins The 40/40 Club
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, Editorial, Front Office, Kudos, MLB, News,
Washington Nationals 2B Alfonso Soriano joined Jose Canseco (Oakland Athletics, 1988), Barry Bonds (San Francisco Giants, 1996), and Alex Rodriguez (Seattle Mariners, 1998) in the elite 40/40 club, where the four players hit at least 40 home runs and stole 40 bases in a season. The historic moment happened in the first after Soriano reached base on a single off of Milwaukee Brewers SP Dave Bush and on a 2-0 count to SS Felipe Lopez, stole second uncontested.

A Hack Job: The “Big Things” in Sports
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, Championship, Editorial, Fantasy, Front Office, Golf, Kudos, MLB, NBA, NFL, Playoffs, Tennis,
As sports fans, we love and want to witness feats of athletic, methodical, and powerful achievement. The grace of Barry Sanders stopping on a dime, running back five yards, then going forward 80 yards while evading all 11 defensive players for a score was soemthing you felt lucky to see, mouth agape, drool making a half necklace around your neck. The devastating display of homerun power in 1998 as Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa chase of Roger Maris and his single season home run record and the way they chased each other had even your grandmother paying attention to the home run race. And, how about Tiger Wood’s assassin-like taking of the PGA at the turn of the century, and most recently this past weekend at the British Open.
Face it, folks, we want to know and be blessed with witnessing, to steal from LeBron James and Nike, the “big things” in sports. And, I’m here to help you all figure out what those things are.

LeBron, Dwyane, and James: Four Years From Now
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Editorial, Fantasy, Front Office, NBA,
As most of you probably know by now, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will be signing three-year extensions with their respective teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat. For both, there will be a fourth year player option…
... but I really don’t think they’ll be taking it.
Yes, yes, yes, I know. It’s four years from now, that is to say 48 months or 1461 days from now (there is a leap year, right?), or about the time it takes your fat mama to put a belt around her waist. Ugh, sorry for that last comment, but I have to admit that I actually watched MTV’s Yo Momma hosted by Erik Estrada’s love child, Wilmer Valderrama, but I promise you I hated myself every second. Anyway, back to the talented ballers and not the non-talented wannabe’s that somehow still get prime babes like Mandy Moore and Lindsey Lohan. WTF?
Okay, I am making a prediction here, folks. I am looking four years ahead when James and Wade’s contract will be over. Are you ready? Strap yourself in for this monumental statement… LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will be playing together on the New York Knicks.
OH SHIZNIT! WHAT? YOU ARE DUMB, D! STRAIGHT UP BANANAS!

Draft the Stache!
Posted by Sean O'Connor Categories: Athletes, Drafts, Front Office, NBA, College Basketball,
The 2006 NBA draft is quickly approaching (June 28th), and it sounds like that the Portland Trailblazer fans are making it very clear who they would like the team to select with the 4th pick of the draft.
The Draft the Stache Campaign is gaining traction in the Rose City, and urging the Blazers to draft Gonzaga star Adam Morrison. An open letter to the team declares that Morrison is the player that can help re-establish the fans trust in the organization harkening back to the days of Clyde Drexler and Terry Porter.
I wonder if the fans campaigned to draft Sam Bowie back in the 1984 NBA Draft?

Okay, cool your pants or your grunts of “What is he thinking?!?!?!” Jordan isn’t coming back to play, although he could probably school 75% of the NBA, but His Airness is coming back as an owner. Specifically a part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, which is owned primarily by Bob Johnson. Jordan will become the second biggest investor in the team and will be the manager of basketball operations, which will make Jordan a hands-on owner involved in personnel moves and things of that nature.
Hopefully Jordan doesn’t make anymore dumb moves like taking a high schooler without a pedigree like Kwame Brown with the number one overall pick as he did with the Washington Wizards in 2001. Basically, what I’m saying is, if your team needs someone to produce, basically right away, don’t go for the high schooler unless it’s an obvious choice, such as a LeBron James.
The Bobcats have the third overall pick in this year’s draft, which takes place on June 28. Jordan can redeem himself from 2001’s failure with a solid pick this time around. Luckiliy, there are are a few big men in LaMarcus Aldridge, Tyrus Thomas, and Andrea Barganini that are available in this year’s draft. With an injured Emeka Okafor and Sean May, last year’s second first round draft pick, the first being Raymond Felton, the Bobcats should go big.
Jordan’s coming back into the league will be a good thing for the NBA as he is regarded by most as being the best player ever to lace them up and hit the hardwood. It’ll be a big boost for the Bobcats, naturally, because of Jordan’s roots in the state, where he helped the University of North Carolina win an NCAA Championship in 1982. Also, you have to think that they players on the team might step up their games because they’re playing for “the man you couldn’t stop, but only hope to contain.” With the athletic Gerald Wallace improving, as well as the aforementioned Felton who stepped up big and flashed All-Star potential when he started, there is a good base to build from. Especially if Okafor can stay healthy.
Michael Jordan, welcome back. I have a feeling this go-around will be a good one.
EndScore Interview: Redleg Nation’s Chad Dotson
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, Editorial, Front Office, Kudos, MLB,
EndScore recently had the great privelege to interview Redleg Nation‘s Chad Dotson, a passionate Cincinnati Reds fan who shows his Reds love through one of the best baseball blogs on the internet. He shared his thoughts on his blog, the current Reds team, and what he thinks of the new Reds ownership.
EndScore: Can you tell me about Redleg Nation (RN) - how it started, when, etc.?
Chad: Sure. A couple of years ago, I began to think I’d enjoy writing about the Reds on a regular basis. I’m a lifelong fan of the team, and I enjoyed the Reds blogs that were out there, but I felt that there was a place for another, different type of Reds blog. So I went about designing the page and getting things set up.
Meanwhile, I made the decision to seek out different contributors. I’m a member of a Cincinnati Reds listserv, and there were several members of that listserv that I thought would make excellent contributors to the blog. So I decided to make it a group blog, invited a few others to join in, and it took off from there. We’ve had a blast with it.
EndScore: So how many bloggers are there on RN?
Chad: We have six bloggers, and each person has their own area of expertise, so to speak. This season, we’re trying to focus more on the Reds minor league system, and having five other contributors makes it easier to follow everything. Our talented group of contributors are Bill Lack (who is the founder of the Reds listserv), Chris Garber, Matt Malott, Chris Wilson, and Tom Diesman.
